Description

The intelligent connected vehicle is of strategic importance in a new round of technological innovation and industrial development around the world for enhancing driving safety, improving traffic efficiency, providing travel information service, and supporting automated driving. To elevate the Sino-German smart manufacturing cooperation to a higher level, Sichuan Province has undertaken the construction of Sino-German Intelligent Connected Vehicles Test Site, the intelligent connected vehicles test site with the largest area and investment in China, which is the only one of its kind under international cooperation.

The construction mainly includes a road traffic augmentation system, intelligent network connection system, automobile intelligent test system, data center and exhibition hall, and public service platform. The road traffic augmentation system mainly involves the road traffic augmentation system as part of the basic access layer in the system architecture. The road traffic augmentation system simulating actual road conditions is built on the site of the test base and linked with other parts to form an intelligent and networked field test environment. The intelligent network connection system is composed of the cloud, the road and the vehicle terminals to realize the digitization of infrastructure. The automobile intelligent test system mainly involves the intelligent connected vehicles test tools and instruments, as well as part of the vehicles, to provide necessary road test scenarios for the test of the intelligent connected vehicles in the test site. The data center and the exhibition hall adopt the “edge-cloud” collaborative system architecture for future Internet of Vehicles applications to form a command hall. The public service platform forms an intelligent and networked field test environment.

From the perspective of construction goals and significance, the project fully considers the cross-industry integration of intelligent vehicles, smart transportation, and networked communications, to drive regional industrial upgrading and clustering as well as the rapid regional development. As the only high-end testing base under international cooperation, the project covers the testing environment and standards at home and abroad. Meanwhile, the project has established a public service platform covering intelligent vehicles, smart transportation, network communication, information security, and Internet of Vehicles simulation integration, providing a complete set of testing services from automobiles to auto parts for different companies in the industry.

Key Data

The Sino-German Intelligent Connected Vehicles Sichuan Test Site has a total of 9 functional areas and 266 test scenarios, including real tunnels, bridges, and simulation workshops for rain, snow and fog and other weathers which can realize the test of intelligent connected vehicles under special weather conditions. The 18.8-kilometer-long road in the test field gathers real driving scenarios such as bridges, tunnels, high-speed ring roads, and urban roads.

Stakeholders

Status Quo/Progress

In the second phase, a semi-open experience area of 5 square kilometers was built in 2020.

In the third phase, a 50 square-kilometers comprehensive demonstration zone for urban Internet of Vehicles was built in 2022.

Finally, a 200 square kilometers intelligent transportation ecosystem will be built to create a new city of the automobile industry in 2025.

Innovation Point

The Sino-German Intelligent Connected Vehicles Test scenarios follow the latest standard system. The rich and realistic scenarios can meet the testing requirements of connected equipment and intelligent transportation equipment. Covering all the testing requirements of intelligent connected vehicles and autonomous driving enterprises during the R&D of automobiles and auto parts, it can provide customers with “one-stop” comprehensive testing services.
