Tbilisi Silk Road Forum: Technical Side Event on Improving Freight Transit and Logistics Performance of Trans-Caucasus Transit Corridor

OCT 22-23, 2019 | Regional

The goal of the Forum is to provide an international platform for multilateral high-level dialogue among senior policymakers, businesses and community leaders to discuss imperative issues on trade and connectivity, examine challenges facing countries along the New Silk Road connecting East and West, and find common solutions that can generate positive impact on regional and global economy.

Over 2,000 participants from government, academia, international organizations, IFIs and businesses were convened to examine factors that effectively define regional and global trade and connectivity. The key topics for discussion will include AI, the impact of its development on the global economy, the changing landscape of global trade, emerging opportunities for improving transport links as part of the New Silk Road, and energy connectivity through increased safety along energy corridors.

The technical session organized by World Bank teams in China and Europe featured presentations from the National Development and Reform Commission of China (NDRC), China Railway Container Transport Corporation, Azerbaijan railways, Georgia railways, and Kerry-Global link logistics.  A few key tripartite follow-up actions were agreed, including policy dialogue on international routes through Caucasus from Zhengzhou and Wuhan, and developing research on digitalization and platforms to enhance freight logistics and trade.
