Maintaining Logistics Services during COVID-19 - Experiences from China

Almost all countries are grappling with the complexities caused by COVID-19 pandemic. This webinar offers a unique window into the experience of China and presents a platform to reflect on the implications for other countries.

What is the impact of COVID-19 on transportation and logistics systems? How should Governments prepare for and respond to disruptions in logistics of essential supplies such as food and medical equipment? How should private transportation and logistics services respond and align with Government efforts? What policy, institutional and regulatory mechanisms could enhance the resilience of critical logistics services? There are no textbook answers to these questions and learning from other countries is therefore important.

Through a combination of presentations from public officials at the front line, firsthand accounts from the private sector and an expert panel discussion this webinar will uncover insights from China’s experience that could benefit client countries and World Bank teams. The presentations will include:

•            Joint Efforts and Collaborative Mechanisms to Safeguard Logistics in China during the COVID-19 pandemic: public officials from China’s Ministry of Transport will present the role of the National Logistics Safeguards Office and its working mechanism to ensure safe, uninterrupted and timely transportation of food, necessities and medical supplies during the peak of outbreak when cities were in lock down;

Continuity of transport and logistics services is paramount kingpin for essential supply chains such as food and medical services. In this context, learning from practical experiences has never been more critical. As the first country to deal with COVID-19, China’s experience fills an important gap.

This webinar is sponsored by China-World Bank Transport Transformation and Innovation Knowledge Platform (TransFORM) and Development Corridors and Regional Integration GSG. It is the third in a special webinar series on Sustaining Transport Services in the COVID-19 Pandemic.
