Transportation information services (e.g. road condition inquiry and forecast) require abundant real-time operation data as support. Using traditional detector and probe vehicle technology requires relatively big infrastructure investment and is not suitable for Internet-based information service demands.
Currently, the User Generated Content (UGC) data-sharing model is what is adopted by many transportation information service apps. Using the road condition information uploaded by the users, the platform consolidates information from various users. After processing and analyzing the data, the information is then broadcast to other users.
The UGC model has overturned the traditional generation information model that is costly and have low-efficiency. As a result, more enterprises are able to take part in transportation information service, thus enriching service contents of transportation information services and relieving pressure of traffic management department in terms of transportation information service.
Due to the flexibility of information acquisition and release by enterprises, customized information contents and release frequency can be provided to better serve the users’ demands. Furthermore, from the massive data resources collected from users’ experiences, it also allows the services to extend from online only to offline services and thus provide travel ecosphere or travel chain services.
In February 2013, the number of users on Chetuobang exceeded 10 million, the daily reporting of road condition events exceeded 300,000 times and the daily number of passively uploaded UGC traffic data points reached 600 million.
In December 2014, the number of users of Chetuobang exceeded 25 million.
The accumulated number of users using road condition customization function on WeChat road condition platform reached 4.7 million, the number of users using rule violation customization function reached 5.2 million, 900,000 users use road condition query function on daily average, and 200,000 users use forecast inquiry functions.
|CURRENT STATUS / PROGRESS|
Currently, there are two mobile end products, namely, Chetuobang app and WeChat road condition public account. In the future, new breakthroughs will be explored in terms of establishing ecological environment for traveling and provision of multimodal travel schemes.
Using the mobile app and WeChat public account platform to share data among users not only lowers the cost of data collection, but also provide travel information service more effectively.
